If the police want to win the public relations war then they need to do a better job of policing themselves. They need to not tolerate the 'Thin Blue Line' mentality of us against them.
The police are public servants. Not our mommies or daddies. If the police expect us to treat them with respect they need to treat the general public with respect. Respect is a two-way street.
I know cops that act like this one are in the minority, but the public perception that this attitude is tolerated, even covered up and pushed under the rug is out there.
The Links here & here.
I tried to find a statement by the Canton OH PD, but I couldn't find one. If someone has a link or knows of one let me know, and it will get linked.
Thanks to David Hardy over at Of Arms & the Law for bring this to my attention.
P.S. If this didn't effect something we cared about would we even be talking about this out of control cop?
Update: over at "Of Arms & the Law" there's a new post with updated info and more thoughts on the matter.
Another update: Roberta X has a great post at her blog, and it's a great reminder that not all officers are a Goofus.
